Hello,
I have subscribed to the WPAustin Google group. I plan to attend a meeting.

I like the information all of the members ask and receive information. It is a vibrant group.

1) Do you record the presentations and then upload so as to be able to view at a later time?
2) Do you do meetings via Skype or join.me so that more people can join in.?

Appreciated!!
Thank you,
Dan

After the meetup, I read about a "workalong" on Twitter. Basically a meetup that everyone works on their own projects, ask each other for help, etc.

It could be great for us intermediates who could figure out most stuff well enough to not need to ask the question, but would if we were in the same room as folks. It would also be great for beginners-- "just starting with WP? Come to our meetup to work on your blog. Meet other folks and if you have any questions, you're in a room of WP users!"

I created a little tutorial on how to do this too. It is the old school way, but I like doing it this way so much I just stuck to it. Just thought I'd share. It took me forever to find good information on how to do, and it has worked for me.

Jackie, I edited the post to remove Prose from the list of premium frameworks. Prose is a child theme, so it's really in a different category than all the other themes in the list.

Looks like BackWPUp may have been pulled from plugin directory - or it's been renamed.

What about removing the readme.html file from your WordPress install directory? Like http://wpaustin.com/readme.html . It's got the version number in there too.

"cat=" refers to the ID of a category.
"tag_ID=" refers to the ID of a tag. They are two different parameters, per the Codex.

If you look through: http://codex.wordpress.org/Function_Reference/WP_Query you'll see all the possible parameters you can use to build the query. My "Featured" category had an ID of 3, so "cat=3" was what I used.

If I want to show posts in a specific tag, I'd use "tag_id=x" where x is the tag id.

Now yes, to keep us possibly confused, when you mouse-over the category name in the Categories page, the ID is in the form of: "taxonomy=category&tag_ID=38"

You can install the "Simply Show IDs" plugin and you'll have a column in your Posts, Pages, Categories, & Tags pages showing the numeric IDs. That might help in creating your query.

I think I just figured it out.

You had

$featured_query = new WP_Query('cat=3&showposts=5');

in slider.php

I did a clean test install, looked at my Featured category and found that there was no "cat=3", but there was a "tag_ID=3" in its url. This works for me:

$featured_query = new WP_Query('tag_ID=3&showposts=5');

Did WP change the call from cat to tag_ID recently?

Now that I've got it displaying images, I'll see if I can get it to work on the actual site.

>Bill, where in your index file did you place that code?

I didn't. You did. ;-) I left it right where you put it in the twentyten package you zipped, above. Just after

div id="content" role="main"

Which is part of why I find it weird - if it worked that way for you, why didn't it work on my install?

More info, just in case: Apache 2.2.17, PHP 5.3.6
